Effecting Pedagogical techniques in the music discipline

. I discovered that in every department of music, you can only find about 5% of the entire students interested in this instrument and about 95% of the students of music with interest in other instruments like the voice, guitar, violin, cello, xylophone, saxophone, trumpet, flute, clarinet, trombone, viola, and many others.

I have personally detected some unfruitful efforts by music Pedagogues in their teach- ability. Music should become a bit more serious than we envisage presently. Music discipline should be an entrepreneurial focused discipline of individual training because it holds a lot of opportunities for every student.  From my findings, the strategies applied presently by the music institutions are far from making this possible.

How can the department of music in Nigeria make the key-board instrument (piano) the most important of every musical instrument?  Research has proven that every Nigerian department of music allocates a lecture time to the key-board instrument and every student is expected to attend the key-board class in turn making it obligatory for every music student.  I discovered that in every department of music, you can only find about 5% of the entire students interested in this instrument and about 95% of the students of music with interest in other instruments like the voice, guitar, violin, cello, xylophone, saxophone, trumpet, flute, clarinet, trombone, viola, and many others. These students are given pieces to practice on the piano and both the key-board major students and the rest of the students are expected to perform these pieces at the same pace.

I came into music school with an interest in guitar but it’s quite unfortunate that I never attended a guitar class until my graduation and after five years in a music school in Nigeria, I still intend to study this instrument again after school.  If only every student can be given a piece to practice in their instrument.

Let me opine that lecture times be allocated to every other instrument and let the students choices of instruments be respected as they should also be judged on their instruments to better benefit and equip them for the challenging market.
